Just inside the door from our garage, we have a strange little nook about 12 inches deep and a couple feet wide. When we discovered that we were using the garage to enter the house much more often than the front door, which has a coat closet nearby, Scott built a couple coat racks to hang on the wall. One fits into the nook, the other on the wall next to it. But then we had a problem about what to do with our shoes, since if we just left them on the floor they were in the way between the door and the stairs. So Scott built a small shoe rack designed to fit into the nook. It's made of cedar, with slats so water doesn't collect. And because it's custom made, it has cubbies that fit Scott's cowboy and motorcycle boots!
