Stars & Moon Quilt

My co-worker and friend, Typhanny Tucker, was pregnant, and I wanted to make a baby quilt for her so I started looking for patterns. About that time, my favorite magazine, Quiltmaker, arrived with a baby quilt that looked like it fit my repertoire. The stars and moon are machine appliqued and alternated with four-square patches. I chose bright colors, using some fabric from my stash and buying a variety that seemed to coordinate. Midway through the project, I had some doubts about the colors I'd chosen -- I feared they clashed. But when the quilt was finished, I saw I'd captured the look I sought. I backed the quilt with a snuggly flannel, then quilted around the stars and moon, and on a diagonal through the four-square patches. It was my first time marking a pattern for quilting, and it came out pretty well. Typh chose to use the quilt as a wall-hanging to decorate the nursery.

Me holding Max. Note that I needed two hands while his mom looked much more relaxed :)
